“Bear in mind that the wonderful things you learn are the work of many generations. All this is put in your hands as your inheritance in order that you may receive it, honor it, add to it, and one day faithfully hand it on to your children.” –Albert Einstein.

We wouldn’t be where we are today without the hard work and dedication that was put in before us. Lau Angus was established by my dad, Ivan Lau. He began raising Angus cattle through 4-H in 1951. Our farm is located near Armour, SD, where my wife, Carolyn, and I (Joel) are the fourth generation to carry on the family farm. Our son Riley, and his wife, Courtney, have also joined us to continue the passion of raising Angus cattle. We are so grateful that we are able to continue to do what we love and enjoy each day working with livestock and look forward to the day that we be able to pass our heritage on.

Carolyn and I have four boys; Quenton, Tyler, Riley, and Clayton. Quenton and Samantha of Redfield, SD both work for Agtegra and have an acreage where they raise cattle and goats. They also help on Samantha's parents farm. Tyler and Denise have an acreage near Armour, SD where they farm and raise goats. Denise works from home for Daktronics. Riley and Courtney also have an acreage near Armour, SD. Riley farms and raises angus and crossbred cattle partnering with us in the operation. Courtney is a registered nurse at the Wagner Hospital. Clayton and Nicole live on the homestead where Ivan Lau started Lau Angus near Armour, SD. Clayton works for Randall Community Water District and Nicole is a stay at home mom working on her next craft. All of the boys love to come and help when they are able or during the busy times of the year in order to aid in continuing the tradition of quality livestock. We have been blessed with ten grandchildren which provides us plenty of opportunity to continue Lau Angus on for many generations to come. We enjoy spending our spare time with them as well as showing them the ways of our legacy.

Lau Angus has been using the information from AHIR records, ultrasounding and genetic testing through 50K, to enhance and assure the quality of our livestock to build a better herd each year. We like to select for disposition, calving ease, sound structure, fleshing ability, and fertility. Lau Angus genetics have the heritage of the American West. They are time tested and proven and we stand by our product so you can put your best foot forward knowing you have the information needed to help you make a confident selection.

Our livestock are our way of life and we would be delighted to visit with you and show you our cattle. Our cattle are available to view at our farm at any time. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out by text or phone call. We have changed the original date of our bull sale to the 3rd Wednesday of January going forward and have added females to the sale this year.  with our beef lunch starting at 11:30. We look forward to seeing you there! If you are unable to make it, please take advantage of the DVAuction services online to view and bid on the sale. We appreciate your interest in our program and look forward to serving you in your breeding decisions and seed stock needs.

Warm regards,
The Lau Family
